Tree for Earth

Water, air, soil, and humans are the four essential elements in Earth that related one another. One of the four elements is damaged, the other will be disrupted. They are natural components which are formed not by itself, but also due to human interference. Present, world is facing many natural events because of global warming effect such as ocean acidification, chemical pollution, global freshwater use, changing in land use etc. The impact of them are biodiversity loss, biochemical flow boundary (nitrogen and phosphorus cycle), and climate changing.

Humans have not been able to control this yet. As the development of technology, people actually started to leave nature. In fact, the natural damaged frequently happen. Water and air are an important source of life. The living things can not survive without them. Whereas soil is a habitation for majority living things, including the human.

Human need a safe operating space for their life to survive in uncertainty Earth climate situation like that. The current technology development should be counterbalanced with nature conservation, nevertheless in fact increasingly leaving nature and create various damages on Earth. Necessarily, technological development support nature conservation, such as tissue culture technology for rare plants multiplication, bio-fuel manufacture for oil substitute, organic fertilizer manufacture to substitute the chemical one for reduce the residues of synthetic chemicals and fix the Nitrogen and Phosphorus cycle. Moreover, urban design technology also affects the nature. The agriculture land use change to be housing causes narrowing agricultural land which will impact on decreased in food productivity so that nation can not supply national food needs. This should be spur development of land management technology, development of cultivation techniques, create new varieties of plants with genetic engineering and crossing plants which can produce high productivity.

Earth needs reduce the use of chemicals against neutralize the pollution on water, air and soil. One way to overcome this is by planting trees. Trees can counteract the pollution on water, air and soil. In soil, root can grip the soil so that can reduce erosion and reform soil structure. For trees, soil is a growing place and provide crop needs in nutrient. Soil also has a function as crop protection from pest and disease and also negative impact from pesticide and hazardous industrial waste. Therefore, trees required to maintain soil fertility and because trees can reform soil nutrient.

Trees have many functions for water, especially fresh water. Besides it can save water in its roots, for example in family Araceae like Sugar Palm (Arenga pinnata) or from family Rhizophoraceae like Mangrove for lakeside areas or basin water area, this trees can also restrain the rate of water speed in basin water area so that this area avoid from erosion. Plant has many benefits for air filtration, especially in town. The high levels of air pollution as a result use of motor vehicles, smoke factory, Freon gases for Air Conditioner, etc give rise to respiratory system disorders for human and animals, whereas they need clean air to breathe. Plants are a source of natural oxygen from its photosynthesis. By planting trees around the town street, can reduce air pollution. For suggestion, plants some plants like Oak, Willow, Lagerstroemia, Mahagony(Swietenia macrophylla), Beringin/Banyan Tree (Ficus benjamina), Rain Tree (Samanea saman) which has big canopy for filtering the air. Tree is not only has a function as an air filter, but also can cooling environs and produce fresh and clean air. Stay under the tree in the afternoon avoid us from sun heat which caused by a thinning ozone layer. With so many trees planted, more oxygen produced. Therefore, start to plant and nurse the trees from ourselves first then people around us, because Earth needs a conditioning that is tree for it lives.
